Wimmer Unstoppable at FMF ATV Spring National at Millcreek Raceway
Byrd and Upperman round out the podium
PELL CITY, AL (March 22, 2009) – Staking his claim to the victory with two near-perfect motos, Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Dustin Wimmer made it two in a row by grabbing the win at Millcreek Raceway’s FMF ATV Spring National, round two of the 2009 ITP/Moose Racing AMA ATV Motocross Championship presented by Parts Unlimited. Although Wimmer did not secure either of the MotorcycleUSA.com Holeshot Awards, they were not necessary to go home with what he wanted most, another check in the win column.
“I take everything race-by-race and try to be real consistent and be up on the podium everytime,” said Wimmer. “Consistency wins championships.”
In the first moto, rookie Nick DeNoble led the pack to the $250 MotorcycleUSA.com Holeshot Award, the first Pro holeshot of his career. He held Honda Baldwin Motorsports’ Josh Upperman and Wimmer off for several turns before relinquishing spots to both riders. Wimmer eventually took over the lead, and a charging Joe Byrd rallied from a bad start to drop Upperman to third for the moto.
“I could’ve gated better, and that was definitely my fault,” said Wimmer of not getting the holeshot. “Half way up the hill for the first turn I started to pull it together and after a lap or two I was in the lead in both motos.”
Early moto one contenders, Warnert Racing Can-Am’s John Natalie and ATVSource.com Top Qualifier Award winner Chad Wienen, both fell to mechanical troubles, ending their challenge for podium finishes.
Moto two began with Upperman, known for great starts, grabbing the $250 MotorcycleUSA.com Holeshot Award followed by rookie Clay Holmes, Wimmer and Byrd. Upperman admitted to not being in the same level of shape as Wimmer and Byrd, and the Ohio native did not have much breathing room and lost the lead to both of them.
“If I stay healthy and get my endurance up a little more, I hope to hang up there in the top spot with Dustin [Wimmer] and Joe [Byrd],” said Upperman.
Making up for his mechanical setback in moto one, Natalie charged from the back half of the pack, picking off one rider at a time to collect third for the moto by mere inches over Upperman. “I worked my butt off and the bike worked great,” said Natalie. “I just picked people off one at a time and didn’t even know where I finished until the end.”
Factory Yamaha and rookie Thomas Brown flirted with the podium again, ending the weekend in fourth overall for the second race in a row. The Sanger, Texas, native rallied from two bad starts to notch 5th and 7th for his two motos.
Jeremy Lawson, in his second year on a Can-Am with Team Motoworks, collected fifth overall with 4th and 8th in each of his motos.
Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Doug Gust settled for 6th overall after a rough set of motos, with Natalie on his heels salvaging 7th overall.
A recent shock test helped Greg Gee to dial in his machine with obvious benefits. The Canadian privateer from Ontario went 9th and 11th in the motos for 8th overall, rising two positions over his Glen Helen finish.
Rookie DeNoble collected 6-14 scores for 9th overall. French Champion, Jeremie Warnia, returned to the Pro line-up, this time on a Can-Am. The anxious rider from Paris, France, collected the final spot in the Top 10 with 14th and 9th for his motos, after battling clutch problems and a spin out.
The Spring National marked the opening round of the amateur series, with the new schedule format welcoming all Pro riders to Sunday’s program while also elevating the level of recognition for the Pro-Am Production class, filled with the next crop of Pro riders. The morning started with Timed Qualifying for both classes. The top 18 riders head straight to the first moto while the rest of the field entered the last chance qualifier to determine the final two entrants.
The anticipation for the noon debut of the Pro-Am Production class was as high as the expectations for the Pro class itself. Cody Gibson eventually sailed away on his Kawasaki KFX450 to win both motos. He shared the podium with Bobby Ross and Chase Snapp, demonstrating an exciting season in the making.
The Millcreek FMF ATV Spring National will be covered in this week’s Motosode of ATVision powered by Quad Magazine, debuting this Wednesday at 7 p.m. at www.quadmagazine.com.
The 2009 ITP/Moose Racing AMA ATV Motocross Championship now heads north to Bowling Green, Kentucky for the Bluegrass Nationals at Ballance Moto X on April 4-5. The event serves as AMA Pro round three and amateur round two for the series.
Quick Notes: A total of 779 entries (eight more than 2008) were confirmed as the final figure for all classes of the Millcreek National…Josh Creamer got the worst end of a first turn moto one pile-up that ended his expected successful follow-up to finishing second at the Glen Helen opener. Managing sixth in moto two, sore and battered, he salvaged an otherwise damaged weekend…As part of the first turn moto one pile-up Cody Miller managed to finish the moto, but a mechanical in moto two ended any sort of comeback relegating him to 17th overall for the weekend… Deemed to have been “riding outside the course boundaries” Clay Holmes was penalized early in moto two ending his run up front… After proving he had the speed by earning the ATVSource.com Top Qualifier Award, Chad Wienen unfortunately suffered back-to-back mechanical breakdowns landing him 20th for the weekend…Go to www.atvmotocross.com for official results for all classes.

Privateer Bryan Cook takes hard fought win at Steele Creek GNCC
McGill, Ballance on Podium
Photos by: Matt Ware

Morganton, NC (March 21, 2009) - Derisi Racing’s Bryan Cook battled a determined pack of contenders to win the 2009 FMF Steele Creek GNCC in his home state of North Carolina, in round three of the 2009 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series. The race proved that this season could be anyone’s year to take the GNCC Championship, as what can best be described as a “freight train of 12 riders” battled neck and neck for a podium win.

KTM’s Adam McGill, defending GNCC Champion, Yamaha’s Bill Ballance, Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Chris Borich and Yamaha’s Taylor Kiser battled wheel-to-wheel until the final lap, when Cook claimed first with McGill fast behind in second and Ballance in third. The leaders traded in and out of first place as the notorious Steele Creek mud hole after the concrete bridge captured more than a few riders.

“It was awesome, but nerve wracking there in the middle,” Cook said. “I had a good start but I made a mistake there at the mud hole. I thought I had thrown it away because it was so hard to pass. I was pretty confident {going into the fourth lap} but it really depended on how you caught the lappers. It was just a fun day.”
Cook also got another nice surprise, as he found out this morning that he and his wife Bonnie are expecting!
Yamaha’s Donald Ockerman scored the $250 MotorcycleUSA.com Holeshot Award and led the pack on the first lap around until McGill caught up to him. McGill led the way for several laps until his lead grew to 20 seconds. Cook caught up to him in the fourth lap after lapped riders started to slow him down.
“Lappers definitely played a big role,” McGill said. “Everyone’s out there to race. You’ve just got to deal with it. I’ll have my day here soon.”
Ballance, who struggled for weeks after having injured ribs surgically removed, was welcomed back to the podium to applause.
“The last three months have been pretty tough,” said an emotional Ballance. “I was thrown a little bit of a curveball (at the beginning of the season) and I was wondering if we’d ever be back in this place again.”

Yamaha’s Taylor Kiser came in fourth, ahead of round two winner, Suzuki’sChris Borich. Can-Am’s Chris Bithell came in sixth, Honda’s Duane Johnson in seventh and Yamaha’s Brandon Sommers in eighth. Rounding out the top 10 was Yamaha’s Johnny Gallagher and in tenth, Can-Am’s Brent Sturdivant.
In the XC2 Pro-Am class,KTM’s Josh Kirkland nabbed first place and the Rekluse $100 holeshot award. Following him in second was Yamaha’s Brian Wolf and in third, Honda’s Eric Hoyland.
In the GNCC morning race, the ladies ruled the podium. FRE KTM’s Angel Atwell claimed her third win in a row, despite skipping a gear on the start. Atwell also collected another $100 from GT Thunder for the Morning Race Overall Win. Can-Am’s Lexie Coulter took second place and Yamaha’s Traci Cecco came in third.
Can-Am’s Bryan Buckhannon took first in 4X4 Open, while Clifton Beasley took the win in 4X4 Lites and Michael Swift took first in 4X4 Limited.
The FMF Steele Creek GNCC continues tomorrow with bike racing. The Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series then moves on to the Pirelli Big Buck in Union, South Carolina on April 4-5.

Thursday afternoon, off-roading legend Malcolm Smith knowingly broke the law…and he invited us to watch him do it! Malcolm, at his motorsports dealership in Riverside, California, sold two youth motorcycles and one 50cc quad. As we all know, the CPSC outlawed the sale of all youth quads and dirt bikes on February 10th due to the lead content of some of the parts. The CPSC is worried that the lead content will harm children, but as Malcolm said, “I’ve never yet seen one child chewing on a motorcycle.”
The Malcolm Smith Motorsports dealership was packed with families who love off-road riding and people from the industry there to support Malcolm’s protest. Malcolm sold dirt bikes to Troy Lee (of Troy Lee Designs) and motocross legend Jeff Ward, and he sold a mini quad to Bud Feldkamp (promoter for Glen Helen Raceway). Malcolm told the crowd that it could cost him up to $100,000 per offense for selling youth vehicles, but he didn’t care because riding is too important.
If you’d like to support the cause, you can do so by going to www.americanmotorcyclist.com, click on “Rights” and then “Issues and Legislation.”

GNCC Racing Television on Versus Network Returns in HD April 4th
Morgantown, W. Va. (March 18, 2009) – Racer TV, the host program of the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series, returns to the Versus Network to cover the 2009 GNCC Series this April. The new season will mark the 9th year of GNCC Racing airing on television, and for the first time ever, the GNCC races will be broadcast in High Definition.
All 13 GNCC bike and ATV rounds, 26 races in total, will air on Versus Network in 30-minute episodes. Each race debuts on Saturday afternoon and then re-airs on Tuesday afternoon, with the opening episode airing Saturday, April 4th, at 2:30 p.m. EST and re-airing on Tuesday, April 7th, at 3:30 p.m. EST. That adds up to 26 hours of GNCC Racing on Versus Network, with additional re-airs planned.
This year’s television shows will be produced in house by GNCC series’ producer Racer Productions, following in the footsteps of the popular Racer X Motocross Show episodes from the AMA Motocross Championships. Jason Hooper, Director of New Media for Racer Productions, spearheads the effort.
“We think year’s shows will be cooler, livelier, and more fun than ever,” says Hooper, a former motocross and GNCC racer. “Our crew learned a lot from the Racer X Motocross Show, and we’ll apply the same principles here: action, fun, personality and cool angles. Plus, the shows will look incredible in HD!”
Jason Weigandt will handle hosting duties for the show. Weigandt, also the host of the AMA Arenacross Series on SPEED, the Supercrosslive! Presented by Parts Unlimited webcast on supercrossonline.com, and the Racer X Motocross Show, has been with the GNCC Series since 2001, and joined the TV broadcast team in 2003.
The Racer TV production crew includes Mike Holbert, a former GNCC pro-class racer on bikes and ATVs. Holbert has been a part of the GNCC TV team since the shows began airing in 2001. Jeremy Saylor, who produced the GNCC shows for Gear Marketing and Media for the last three seasons, also remains on board.
The Can-Am GNCC Series is the only off-road racing series in America airing weekly cable TV programs. Racer TV sponsors Can-Am, Rocky Mountain ATV/MC and Yamaha have contributed to the 2009 television program.
This year’s shows will focus on the battle for the GNCC XC1 and XC2 pro class titles. On ATVs, Yamaha’s Bill Ballance aims for an unprecedented 10th-straight GNCC Championship, with contenders such as Chris Borich, Adam McGill, Brandon Sommers, Bryan Cook and William Yokley aiming to knock him off. On Bikes, the wide-open championship field includes Paul Whibley, Josh Strang, Nathan Kanney, Charlie Mullins, Jimmy Jarrett, Kurt Caselli, Barry Hawk and Thad DuVall.

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA) has effectively outlawed the sale of youth off-highway vehicles (OHVs). According to section 101(a) of the enacted legislation, all youth products containing lead must have less than 600 parts per million (ppm) by weight. The CPSC has interpreted the law to apply to various components of youth OHVs including the engine, brakes, suspension, battery and other mechanical parts. Even though the lead levels in these parts are small, they are still above the minimum threshold.

U.S. House kills bill that would have closed 2 million acres to off-highway riding
PICKERINGTON, Ohio — In a major victory for off-highway motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle (ATV) riders, the U.S. House on Wednesday, March 11, voted down a bill that would have banned motorized vehicles from more than 2 million acres of public land, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) reports.
The bill — Senate Bill 22: The Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009 — failed to get the required two-thirds vote of the House members for approval. The vote was 282 yes to 144 no, with six lawmakers abstaining.
The bill had raised the ire of the AMA and others not only because it was a package of more than 160 bills put together to form a single bill more than 1,300 pages long, but also because it was fast-tracked through the Senate earlier this year and then positioned for a final House vote without the consideration of House members on more than 70 bills in the package.
“AMA members played a significant role in the defeat of this bill,” said Ed Moreland, AMA vice president for government relations. “We asked all AMA members, off-highway motorcyclists, ATV riders and everyone who supports responsible outdoor recreation to immediately contact their congressional representative and ask them to reject the bill. And people responded, flooding their lawmakers with requests to vote ‘no.’”
U.S. Rep. Rob Bishop (R-Utah), a leading voice opposing the measure, agreed: “This bill was the poor product of a poor process, and it would have cut off reasonable access for a whole host of activities on our public lands. I think it’s correct to say that the defeat of this bill today was a victory for Americans who appreciate access, such as the millions of folks who enjoy responsible recreation on our public lands.
“This specific fight is certainly not over, but the grassroots lobbying so far has definitely helped our cause,” Bishop said.
Speaking on the House floor before the vote, U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings (R-Wash.) warned that the bill “bans recreational access to millions of acres of public land despite proponents claims that it will protect vast new land areas for the appreciation of Americans. Lands that citizens currently use for enjoyment will be barricaded from recreational vehicle use.”
Moreland noted that other land-access groups were also involved in fighting this measure, including Americans for Responsible Recreational Access, the BlueRibbon Coalition, the Motorcycle Industry Council, the Off-Road Business Association, the American Council of Snowmobile Associations and others.
The bill was written poorly, lumping together so many different proposals, Moreland said. Additionally, it would have unreasonably banned responsible motorized recreation on more than 2 million acres of public land by inappropriately designating it as Wilderness. The procedures used for fast-tracking the bill through the legislative process also violated the spirit of open and democratic government.
Moreland warned, however, that while the AMA is cautiously optimistic about the outcome of today’s vote, this bill, or one very similar to it, could re-emerge in another form soon. Riders must remain vigilant.

Young motorcyclists and ATV riders join state lawmakers to seek lead-law exemption
PICKERINGTON, Ohio – Young riders, parents, state lawmakers and others concerned about the current federal ban on selling youth dirtbikes and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) rallied on the steps of the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City, Wednesday, March 4, to support an exemption to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) of 2008, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) reports.
The press conference that followed was organized by State Rep. Tom Self (R-Cole Camp), who also sponsored a successful Missouri House resolution urging the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to “provide a waiver or exclusion for youth ATVs and motorcycles from the lead limit requirements of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act.”
Under the CPSIA, which took effect Feb. 10, manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers are barred from making, importing, distributing or selling any product intended for children 12 and under that contains more than 600 parts per million of lead in any accessible part. According to the CPSC, that includes youth-sized motorcycles and ATVs, which include lead in such things as batteries, brakes and engines. The ban also shelves many parts needed for repair.
The CPSIA greatly concerns the AMA, the industry and the off-highway vehicle (OHV) community because it encourages parents to put their youngsters on adult-sized OHVs. There is also great concern for the survival of powersports dealers and their employees, which are already struggling given the current recession. According to the Motorcycle Industry Council, the CPSIA could lead to $1 billion in lost economic value annually for the industry.
“Washington, D.C. tells us that this ban is a result of unintended consequences, effectively passing the buck,” said Ed Moreland, AMA vice president for government relations, who spoke at the rally. “That’s not good enough. These changes need to be made now before kids are injured, and thousands of small family-owned businesses are needlessly put out of business.”
Moreland added that it is ironic that the agency with which the AMA and the industry have spent years developing youth-sized OHV standards is now charged with enforcing the CPSIA, effectively rendering the standards useless.
“Young riders represent the future of motorcycling and ATVing in America, and shouldn’t be denied their right to ride,” he said.
Paul Vitrano, general counsel for the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America and the MIC, also spoke at the Missouri gathering. He noted that the potential losses for the powersports industry are massive “at a time when this country cannot afford additional economic losses.” Thousands of small businesses across America are being hurt by the ban, he added.
Moreland asked all concerned parents and riders nationwide to contact their own state lawmakers to urge them to pass resolutions like Missouri’s, supporting an exemption to the law banning youth-sized motorcycles and ATVs. They also need to contact the members of their federal congressional delegations and the CPSC to demand that the law be changed to include an exemption, he said.
The easiest way to do this is to go to the Rights section of the AMA website at www.AmericanMotorcyclist.com, and then click Issues and Legislation. There, riders and their parents can contact lawmakers and the CPSC to voice their concerns.
“Nearly 40,000 people have already used the AMA website to voice their displeasure to Congress and the CPSC, but we can’t stop now, we have to keep up the pressure,” said Moreland.
Interested parties can also sign up on the AMA website to get e-mail Action Alerts to learn when action needs to be taken on issues threatening motorcycling and ATV riding.

Wimmer on Way to Defending Championship
Takes Glen Helen Overall followed by Creamer and Byrd

SAN BERNARDINO, CA (March 8, 2009) — Defending champion Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Dustin Wimmer challenged a full gate of hungry Pro riders to take the win at the opening round of the 2009 ITP/Moose Racing AMA ATV Motocross Championship presented by Parts Unlimited. The weather was perfect for racing, and while Wimmer could not say the same of his first moto, he rebounded with a holeshot and a solid second moto to secure his bid for the number-one spot on the podium.
“It’s always easy getting out front first. You don’t have to work as hard,” Wimmer said of his second moto. “However, it is never easy on a rough and sandy track like Glen Helen Raceway. I came up on two wheels in the second or third lap and thought I was going to lose it. But defending my championship like this; it feels great.”
The first moto was easily the most exciting way to open the 2009 series. The MotorcycleUSA.com Holeshot Award winner, Josh Creamer with Monster Energy Kawasaki, pulled some early ground over a pack of Honda’s including rookie Nick DeNoble, Josh Upperman and Joe Byrd after rounding the famous Talladega turn. Wimmer came out fifth, after taking nearly half the race to reach and pass Byrd who made it up to second. Eventually gaining ground on Creamer, Wimmer stalked him for the later part of the moto narrowly taking the lead on several occasions until Creamer changed his lines to hold his ground. With Creamer riding smart, Kawasaki earned their first moto of the year.
The second moto played out quite differently with Wimmer powering his Suzuki to the second MotorcycleUSA.com Holeshot Award and easily settling into the lead over Byrd who leveled out in second. Creamer, after a middle pack start, made his way into the number three spot that secured the second spot on the podium behind Wimmer; something that he did not quite realize during the race.
“My mechanic was telling me ’second, second’ and I didn’t know what it meant,” Creamer said. “I was thinking, trying to figure it out. I guess I was never really good at math.”
Byrd rounded out the podium happy with a better start to the season compared to last year. “We had a better setup in the second moto and we like this track,” he said. “It’s good and rough.”
Yamaha rookie Thomas Brown was so excited to be at the race you couldn’t wipe the grin off of his face. The Sanger, Texas native was riding like he definitely belonged next to the veterans of the class. Riding an ailing machine in moto one, he kept it together to finish ninth then upped it to fourth for a fourth overall.
Another rookie and Byrd’s protege, Clay Holmes of Lexington, Tenn., came close to earning the number four spot, but the quiet rider earned eighth and fifth to grab his first Top 5 finish in the Pro class.
Can-Am mounted riders John Natalie of Warnert Racing earned fifth and tenth for sixth overall while Motoworks’ Jeremy Lawson finished the day in seventh with tenth and seventh for his motos.
Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Doug Gust, who got tangled on the start in moto one, reached thirteenth at the checkers and ended the second moto in sixth for eighth overall.
Baldwin Motorsport Honda’s Josh Upperman had a great start to moto one but faded back to sixth then suffered a rough second moto relegating him to fourteenth for ninth overall.
Rounding out the Top 10 overall was Canadian Greg Gee who switched brands in the off season and entered 2009 on a Honda.
The 2009 ITP/Moose Racing AMA ATV Motocross Championship heads east to Pell City, Alabama for the FMF Spring Nationals at Mill Creek Raceway on March 21 and 22 where the amateur classes will join the series with their opening round of the season.
Quick Notes: The weather was perfect, the stands were full of spectators and the track had incredible media support for the only California round on the tour…As one of four Pro rookie’s entering the 2009 season, Nick DeNoble got “too excited” and ran out of steam after narrowly pulling the holeshot in his first moto as a Pro rider…Houser Honda’s Harold Goodman and Warnert Can-Am’s Cody Miller connected in the rolling section of the track in moto one forcing a disappointing moto (and day) for both…Mitch Reynolds is not only a rookie but also pilots the only Polaris in the field.

Xcorps Action Sports Show #35.)”VIPER”-seg.4-This episode follows up the raging XC DUNES off road motor sports series and includes hosts Jason Lazo and Rat Sult returning to the California Glamis sand dunes for more sand rod big air action fueled by tight tunes from Xcorps featured artists Poets and Pornstars and Daddy X along with mega vids from Euro metal bands Kreator and Metal Church!
The show opens up from Los Angeles where host Jason Lazo rolls into Hollywoods famous Viper Room club for a live performance from CEG managed Karmagun Records band Poets and Pornstars. Great live action HD shots here with their song War on Gravity setting the pace for this XC episode-fast and mucho fun!
Segment one starts out with the cameras rolling 90 miles east of San Diego at the Glamis Dunes where Jason meets up with X Games luge skate medalist Rat Sult towing his new 500 HP custom sand buggy into camp. It’s not long until the rig is gassed up and flooring up untouched dune faces complete with hood cam shots and a punchy tune from Poets and Pornstars called Get Your Kicks! Nice fit! Jason talks with Rat about the Glamis scene and what to expect over the weekend!
After that the action continues with more dune riding action and some crazy shots of some of the custom rides people create to roll the sand including a cool single seat V-8 monster quad! No smog, speed or horse limits at Glamis! Jason drops a few lines and Sub Noize artist Daddy X rolls his song Mind Bender to shots of Rats car going airborne! Have a drink while you’re up there boys! Sound bytes here from Jason on his first impression riding along with the Ratmeister! Rat and J drop down the face of an 800-foot dune in seconds pushed by the Chevy Vette LS2 motor. The action rod shots share the edit with cranking tunes and a massive video from Euro metal band Kreator blowing it up at WOA festival in Wacken Germany –one of Europes biggest! The band took the place down doing their song ‘People of the Lie’ complete with a classic metal scream pumping the Glamis action! Thanks to SPV Records and RIVE for the hookup!
After the break the sand pounding continues with Jason and Rat charging the RatRod up Big Daddy Dune - Oldsmobile Hill - cut with tunes from the equally charging Euro band Metal Church working their song Mirror of Lies at another huge festival in Oslo Norway. The Viking soul seeks Metal! Perfect for the fast action with the segment rolling with even more Glamis HD shots including custom cool all American sand toys and some fun quad drag racing straight up the dune faces! LA band Poets and Pornstars backs the action as well closing out the segment in style!
In the next segment Jason pulls it back to LA to The Viper Room where band Poets and Pornstars is breaking out front of the Hollywood club. J introduces the members to the XC audience and talks with leadman Hal Ozsan. Nice XC throw by the band along with some cool live set closing performance shots!
The show closes out with Rat and J man back at the Sand Toy capital of the world and some sick night run action tailored by more tunes from Daddy X and his song Mind Bender! Pretty much describes what Xcorps is all about!

Borich Wins Spectacular Battle at Maxxis General GNCC
Kiser, McGill on podium
WASHINGTON, GA (March 7, 2009) – Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Chris Borich battled past a deep pack of contenders to win the Maxxis General GNCC, round two of the 2009 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series. The race demonstrated the depth of this year’s championship field, as well as Borich’s determination to take this year’s title. Yamaha’s Taylor Kiser, FRE KTM’s Adam McGill, and Warnert Can-Am’s Chris Bithell were in the hunt for the win, but on the last lap Borich pulled through.
“It was a really fun race, we were just battling all day,” said Borich. “It was good to ride with Chris (Bithell) and those guys, it seemed like we were just on a trail ride together. It’s good to ride with people you know won’t take you out.”
Bithell led Borich late in the race, but the event came down to pit strategy. Borich pitted for a splash of gas while Bithell failed to finish the last lap, reportedly running out of fuel. That opened the door for Kiser, who started near the back of the pack but charged hard all day long to net second. Kiser’s spirited run from the back proves his win last weekend in Florida was no fluke. McGill, who started the race by grabbing the $250 MotorcycleUSA.com Holeshot Award, took his second third-place finish in as many weeks.
GT Thunder Yamaha’s Brandon Sommers took fourth, ahead of ATVRiders.com-backed Yamaha rider Jarrod McClure.
GT Thunder Yamaha rookie Don Ockerman finished sixth, Duane “The Rock” Johnson was seventh, and Yamaha’s Johnny Gallagher took eighth. Ryan Lane and Jeff Pickens rounded out the top ten.
Defending GNCC Champion Bill Ballance, still struggling just four weeks after having injured ribs surgically removed, completed four of five laps to collect 14th in the XC1 Pro class.
In the XC2 Pro-Am class, Josh Kirkland grabbed the $100 Rekluse Holeshot Award, but Yamaha’s Brian Wolf pulled through for the win. Kirkland finished just behind in second, with Eric Hoyland third. Sixteen-year-old Walker Fowler netted top amateur honors again with 17th overall and a win in the College A class.
In the GNCC morning race, FRE KTM’s Angel Atwell matched her win from last weekend’s race in Florida with another in Georgia. Atwell collected another $100 from GT Thunder for her efforts, with Kristin Atwell and Traci Cecco in second and third overall. Bryan Buckhannon, Michael Swift and Cliff Beasley won the 4×4 Open, Limited and Lites Classes, respectively, on their Warnert Can-Ams, and Robert Smith won the U2 Class on a Kawasaki.
The Maxxis General GNCC continues tomorrow with bike racing. The Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series then moves to Morganton, North Carolina for the FMF Steele Creek GNCC on March 21 and 22.

WORCS Rd#2: 2/28/09- Adelanto, CA
Hurricane. Ut- 2/28/09:
DATS Racing came into Rd #2 looking to rebuild from the first round start to the 2009 season, and that’s just what they did.Pro riders Robbie Mitchell & John Shafe finished a respectable 8th for Mitchell and 12th for Shafe matching his Pro plate # and just outside the top ten. Mitchell seemed to find a steady pace as he bounced from 5th to 10th and back before settling right around 8th and getting some well earned points. Johnny Shafe who is the new addition to the team this year, is starting to find his groove on the newly adapted Kawasaki KX450. Shafe & Mitchell are starting to click really well and the team keeps getting better and better as the season progresses.

“We seem to be getting there. First off, I have a great group to work with. The entire DATS Team with Mitchell, Shafe, the family, sponsors and friends make this alot easier on me. Johnny seems to be getting more fit with the Kawi and Robbie is looking comfortable as we move on through this season.I can’t be happier for the crew right now.” -Darin Snow/DATS Racing team manger.

DATS Rnd #3 Announcement will come out in a few weeks as the team heads to Lake Havasu next month.Havasu is the breeding ground for WORCS and a good time at that.

Motoworks traveled to France the second weekend of February to enter the most demanding craziest race in the world known as “Le Touquet Beach Race”. With 500 entries andreported 170,000 spectators, Josh and Jeremy teamed up to encounter the rough demanding sand course on a sunny and very cold weekend. Josh ran in the top 5 for a good portion of the race, until the Can-AM 450 went dry. “We had a little mishap, but that comes with the territory. Besides that, Josh ran really well and we were pleased with our first trip out to this race.” -Ty Zimmerman of Motoworks.
While Josh finished 64th out of 500 ATV entries, teammate Jeremy Warnia from France finished a very respectable runner-up 2nd position. Congrats to a Jeremy on a superb finish.

WORCS Rd #2: (2-28-09): Adelanto, Ca-
Team Can-Am Motoworks put in a solid race for the 2nd round of the 2009 WORCS Racing series. In the Pro class, Josh Frederick finished where he left off in Phoenix, and that was on top of the box. RANGER RZR Continues to Do-It-All on the Racing Scene
Side-by-Side captures King of the Hammers and podiums at WORCS
Minneapolis, March 4, 2009 – The RANGER RZR added a few more notches to its belt taking first and second in the King of the Hammers Side-by-Side race and topping the UTV Class at WORCS Round 2, in Adelanto, Calif. The Side-by-Side continues to show its versatility and durability in any racing terrain.

Mitch Guthrie took the King of the Hammers Side-by-Side race, at Johnson Valley OHV Area, in his modified RANGER RZR with Polaris Racers, Jagged X, taking second. The King of the Hammers was a 48-mile race that combined the technical aspects of rock crawling with the challenges of desert racing.

Mark Holz and his RANGER RZR got the holeshot and never looked back winning WORCS Round 2, at Race Town 395 raceway, in Adelanto, Calif. The RANGER RZR ate up the course, which was a combination of motocross and desert, showing it can conquer anything thrown at it. WORCS Defending Side-by-Side champion Doug Eichner, took third overall with his RANGER RZR S. The next WORCS UTV race is March 27-29, in Lake Havasu, Arizona.

“Took the Endurogen the night before and morning of, also took the Cynergy 40 minutes before. I felt great during the whole race and was ready for more. Iu was able to go as fast as the bike and my fear would let me, I’m normally limited by fitness or lack of at the race. Very little soreness Monday and today. I will be making this a part of my nomal routine from now on.”
Brian Grey- #31 WORCS Pro
Hey everyone, hope all is well. It has been a rush year. We have almost doubled our
expectations coming into 2009 and it’s only going to get better from here. As you can see
we have hired JR Publications to help get our press out there and I feel it’s going to be a
great advantage in helping to solidify MotoX Nutrition’s place in the off road racing
community.
Next, we have brought on WORCS ATV Pro Jorie Williams #10 to help assist a couple
days a week on the bike and sponsorship side at the new office and MXN Training Facility
located in Washougal, WA. Earlier this month, legendary ATVA pro Harold Goodman
signed with TEAM MXN. We are thrilled to have Harold on board, who has been testing
since last year. I don’t know of any other Pro with a busier racing schedule than Harold and
MXN will help him stay at the top in 2009. Also, new to the team is GNCC Pro Taylor
Kiser. Taylor after competing and testing with MXN in off-season racing in Florida, inked
with us early this month. Back on Yamaha and a solid program, Taylor should be a force to
reckon with.
TEAM MotoX Nutrition is proud to announce it’s also moving into the two wheeled dirt
bike market. “Were originally weren’t targeting this market in the beginning due to my
heavy knowledge and contacts in the ATV side of racing, but it was only a matter of time,”
stated Christian of MXN. We have had such two wheeled stars such as Jeff Alessi, Ross
Johnson, Donnie Wilson, Brad Nauditt and many more who have already tested with our
MXN products last year. There are also many new top riders testing right now who will
soon be revealed. We are looking for more new top prospects to help the MXN presence to
be felt in the dirt bike industry. If your looking for a legitimate performance racing edge,
please contact MotoX Nutrition via e-mail or directly.
So-as you can see it’s going to be a great year. I’m very excited to get to work with some
of the top professional racers in the world. The season is here, we hope you have prepared,
trained, practiced and decided to join with TEAM MotoX Nutrition in 2009 on your quest
to your best racing season yet!
-Christian Chambers

About Moto X Nutrition: MotoX Nutrition was founded on the principle that the optimal way to make a racer faster and safer, was through the rider. The strong, focused, and fresh rider will be able to have the major advantage edge on the track every time. Eliminate the chance of falling off or making a crucial mistake as the race comes down to the last lap. Our motto at MXN is “It’s not the bike, it’s the rider”. The elite athletes of the world are elite from a result of hard work, discipline, sacrifice, p and talent. It’s a great advantage to be able to load your bike with the latest technology and parts to put you and your team on the podium, but 4lbs lighter here and 2% more horsepower there, isn’t going to compare to the advantage you give yourself to drive your bike harder on the last lap, than the first. The team at MXN have over 14 years of nutrition and training experience. Contracted by top nutritional companies to formulate and design their cutting edge formulas, team MXN saw a need to bring this experience into the motocross realm where elite athletes are looking for the biggest impact advantage. Team MXN brings to you nutrition, performance nutritionals and training, crossed with 17 years of motocross experience. There?s a new star for track performance edge, it’s MotoX Nutrition.

The Daystar MX Fuel Miser Is the Least Expensive Weight-Saving Device Money Can Buy!
Take the guess-work out of knowing exactly how much fuel is in your tank with the Daystar MX Fuel Miser, a simple device that provides accurate fuel level readings in any motorcycle or ATV fuel tank.
Motocross racers are always obsessed with weight; the lighter the bike, the faster the and better the bike will handle. There are lots of products out there that cost hundreds of dollars and save only an ounce or two. However, many don’t realize they are penalizing themselves with several extra pounds by carrying too much fuel during a moto. With the Fuel Miser it’s possible to shed pounds, rather than ounces, by carrying only the amount of fuel you need to finish your moto.
The Fuel Miser enables you to easily and accurately measure the amount of fuel in your tank. A simple thin clear tube with graduated marks, the Fuel Miser works with any fuel tank. After performing a simple calibration procedure, in seconds the user will know exactly how much fuel is in the bike’s tank. Why lug around an extra gallon of fuel during a race? With the Fuel Miser, there is an inexpensive way to stay competitive. The Fuel Miser is just $19.95 and is available at DaystarMX.com.

Founded in 1977, Daystar Products is a premium manufacturer of suspension components and accessories for trucks and SUVs as well as motorcycles, UTVs, and ATVs. AMA Pro ATV Motocross Series Kicks Off This Weekend

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (March 5, 2009) - The top motocross riders on four-wheels will kick off the chase for the most prestigious championship in their sport this Sunday at the legendary Glen Helen Raceway in Devore, California, just outside of San Bernardino. The event features the pro portion of the Moose Racing/ITP Tires AMA ATV Motocross Championship presented by Parts Unlimited and also serves as the opening round of the ITP Quad Cross Series for amateur riders.
Glen Helen packs some of the most spectacular motocross obstacles in the motocross world, including the massive Mt. Glen Helen hill and an array of big jumps. Tickets on Sunday are $10 for fans ($5 for ages 6-12), and admission includes full pro pit access, autographs, and free demo rides on 2009 Can-Am ATVs. Glen Helen Raceway is located in the Glen Helen Regional Parks & Recreation Area, Devore, Calif., in San Bernardino County, within 60 miles of Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego Counties.
The top factory-backed teams will end an off-season of testing and training with this race. Rockstar Yoshimura Suzuki rider Dustin Wimmer leads the way as the defending AMA Pro ATV Motocross Champion. The Center Valley, Pa. resident took the field by surprise last year by winning at Glen Helen race, but now the championship target sits squarely on his back. The pack of contenders includes Joe Byrd, the 2006 and 2007 AMA Pro Motocross Series’ Champion on a Honda from Union City, Tennessee. Wimmer’s teammate Doug Gust may be the oldest rider in the field, but the 40-plus year old contender can’t be counted out. Many have tabbed new Monster Kawasaki recruit Chad Wienen as a potential champion, as the Galena, Illinois rider claimed the prestigious AMA Pro ATV Open at Steel City Raceway in Pennsylvania in September. Since then, he has switched teams and, and along with teammate Josh Creamer expects big things this year.
Factory Yamaha’s Pat Brown will debut the all-new YFZ450R at Glen Helen, while the Warnert Racing Can-Am team sends 2005 Champion Josh “Ironman” Natalie into battle alongside Motoworks Can-Am’s Jeremy Lawson, who finished second in the 2007 tour behind Byrd.
The pro class will feature two 20-minute races on Sunday, taking place at noon and 3 p.m., with the combined scores of both races determining the overall winner. From there, the series heads east to complete a full 11-race national schedule that concludes with the ATV Dirt Days race at Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, in August.
The pro riders will run as part of a full schedule of amateur racing, including classes for Youth, Women and veteran riders. Pros will practice on Saturday and race on Sunday. Free demo rides on 2009 Can-Am ATVs take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday only, and Yamaha will offers demos on Yamaha Rhinos on Sunday. For more information, go to www.atvmotocross.com or call 304-284-0101.
From LA & San Diego, take Interstate 15 North, then Interstate-215 South to Devore Exit and follow signs. The track address is Glen Helen Raceway
18585 Verdemont Ranch Road
San Bernardino, CA 92407.

Thank you dad for all you have done. Your family will always be here by your side.

Florida’s Own Taylor Kiser Takes First-Ever Win at GNCC Opener
Borich, McGill Overcome Mechanical Troubles to Land on Podium
LAKE WALES, FL (March 1, 2009) - Alva, Florida’s Taylor Kiser started the 2009 Can-Am Grand National Cross County Series in dream fashion by notching his first career win at the season opening River Ranch GNCC in Lake Wales, Florida. Kiser, who finished the 2008 tour ranked sixth in the final standings, topped Rockstar Yoshimura Suzuki’s Chris Borich and FRE KTM’s Adam McGill on a rough, dry, sandy race track at the West Gate River Ranch Resort.
“This is like a dream to win it in front of all of these people,” said Kiser in front of his home state fans on the podium. “I saw Chris and Adam setting a good pace out front, and I wasn’t sure if I should go with them, because this course gets so rough and I knew it would be a long day. So I just played it smart and it paid off.”
Borich grabbed the $250 MotorcycleUSA.com Holeshot Award and took off early. He and McGill traded the lead a bit before McGill came in contact with a lapped rider. “Another rider had just pulled out of Chris’ way, and then he pulled back onto the track just as I was coming through. I flipped the thing and it broke the bolt on my front brake. That was some bad luck there.”
McGill took an extended pit stop, and Kiser went around to take second. Then Borich started struggling as his clutch started fading. “I felt real good, real strong early,” said Borich. “I’ve been training a lot harder, hitting the gym real hard. We’re ready. I ride the clutch a lot through those sand whoops, but in this sugar sand it started to fade. I really had to change my riding style on the last lap just to get in to the finish. I think everyone probably had clutch problems out here.”
Kiser admitted his clutch started fading, too, but after he made the pass on Borich he kept his pace up and rolled to a win by just over a minute after two hours of racing.
Fourth went to DeRisi Racing veteran Bryan Cook, on an Honda, with last year’s XC2 Champion Don Ockerman grabbing fifth on his factory GT Thunder Yamaha. Sixth went to Brandon Ballance, on a Yamaha, with Warnert Racing Can-Am’s Chris Bithell in seventh. Jeff Pickens, Jarrod McClure and Josh Kirkland rounded out the top ten overall, with Kirkland topping the XC2 Pro-Am Class on his FRE KTM.
“This is the way I was hoping it would go, but really, I was just hoping to get to the dirt races to get a win,” said Kirkland after a day in the sand.
Second in the class went to another KTM rider, David Crane, while third came an unheralded Kawasaki privateer from New York, Scott Rich. Yamaha rider Brian Wolf grabbed the $100 Rekluse XC2 Holeshot Award and finished fifth, behind Honda rider Eric Hoyland.
Defending GNCC Champion Bill Ballance struggled all day dealing with the effects of getting surgery on his ribs just three weeks ago - the result of an injury that lingered from last year. He finished 18th in the XC1 pro class after completing four of six laps.
Ballance and Bithell did, however, compete hard the night before the race as part of barrel racing at the River Ranch Rodeo. In the end, Ballance came up a second short of the fastest horse while riding his YFZ450R.
In the morning race, KTM’s Angel Atwell notched the $100 GT Thunder Morning Race Overall Award in her first GNCC on a KTM. Jennifer Albright notched second overall and second in the Women’s class, with Warnert Can-Am’s Michael Swift taking top 4×4 honors by notching third overall and winning the 4×4 Limited Class.
The Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series continues with bike racing from the Parts Unlimited River Ranch GNCC on Tuesday, March 3rd. For more information and full results, visit www.gnccracing.com
