Fasst Company announces 2009 Flexx Handlebar System GNCC Team
Fasst Company, the manufacture of the 100% American Made Flexx Handlebar System is looking forward to another great year in the GNCC series. Over the off season Fasst Company’s race support director Chris Avery strove to help the numerous riders applying for Fasst Company’s Flexx Handlebar System controlled pro and amateur teams. “We’ve worked really hard to have the best of the best on Flexx Handlebar System; the demand for it at all levels of racing is extremely high. Putting together another strong GNCC program was a challenge; I wanted to get everything right for each rider. We work hard to have a great relationship with each rider, while striving to provide all the performance we can to allow them to perform at their best. Our guys are strong, pumped and ready to go!”
Fasst Company is anchoring their team once again by re-signing nine time GNCC champion Bill Ballance. Bill took home four race wins in 2008 and won the championship by over forty points. Look for Bill to run his usual number 1 plate on his Flexx Handlebar controlled YFZ 450.
Joining Bill, will be the factory KTM team. Leading the KTM team into 2009 is Adam McGill. Adam won four rounds in 2008 and is ready to make a run at the championship this season. Alongside McGill on the Flexx Handlebar System controlled Factory KTM’s will be Josh Kirkland and Angel Atwell. Fasst Company’s race support director Chris Avery stated, “I am really excited about having McGill back. He called me all winter to make sure we got this deal done, he didn’t want to race without the Flexx Handlebar! We are stoked to continue our relationship with Adam, Tim Farr and the Factory KTM team.”
Continuing through the roster of Flexx Handlebar controlled riders in the GNCC series are Factory Yamaha’s 2008 XC2 Champion Donald Ockerman, Johnny Gallagher and GT Thunder’s Brandon Sommers. Ockerman made his debt in the XC1 class at the end of 2008 and took home the runner up spot in both races. Brandon is coming off a strong 2008 where he ended the year in 5th. Brandon said, “thanks to the Flexx Handlebar System I can charge through rough sections a lot harder without feeling any fatigue in my little arms”.
Fasst Company has also signed Traci Cecco, Lexie Coulter, Taylor Kiser, Walker Fowler, Warnett/ Can-Am, Mike Penland, Cody Anderson, Kevin Johnston, Santo Derisi, Bryan Cook, Shawn Hess, Brandon Ballance, Kristen Atwell, Jennifer Albright, Bryan Buckhannon, Jerime Dudding, Dirk & Luke DeCesare, Todd Demaree, Michael Swift, Parker Jones, and other select racers.
2008 Women’s Pro champion Traci Cecco will be running her usual Flexx Handlebar Controlled Factory Yamaha YFZ 450 again in 2009. While testing in the off season Avery said, “Traci is an unbelievable rider and watching her battle for the 2008 championship was awesome. I am looking forward to working with her again in 2009.”
In all Fasst Company supported riders brought home 11 championships in the 2008 GNCC series. We look to continue our dominance on the track in 2009. Be sure to stop by the pits of any of our team riders this season to see the latest Fasst Company and Flexx Handlebar products.

Hey motocross race fans—we’ve got exclusive spy video of Doug Gust and Dustin Wimmer testing their 2009-spec Yosh/Suzuki Factory QuadRacers out at Glen Helen Raceway in SoCal. From what we can tell it looks like the team guys are going to be riding with some support from Parts Unlimited—we can see that they are wearing Moose riding gear and Alpinestar boots for the upcoming season. It’s hard to tell, but it also looks like they are wearing Fulmer helmets as well.
It certainly looks like there has been a few changes to their program for this year! And we can tell you right now that the two guys were rippin’ it up. The bikes look and sound mean!
We can’t wait for the season to start—it’s shaping up to be an epic year at the races!

Now, before all of you out there comment that you’ve already seen this truck - I know it’s not new. If I’m not mistaken, this Suzuki concept truck actually first showed up at a Japanese auto show in 2007.
I was online late last night looking for some Suzuki logos (to run with another story on our site) and I came across a cool gallery of pics showing off this Suzuki X-Head concept vehicle. I remember when I first saw the pics last year and I thought the truck was the coolest thing I had seen in awhile—a lot of people have commented that it looks like an old-school Tonka truck (which is a toy that I grew up with, so I could definitely relate!).
Anyway, seeing these pics again got me thinking… If this truck were to hit the market “as is” like you see it in these pics, would you buy one? And I say “as is” because most “concept” vehicles that actually end up going into production rarely look like they did at the concept stage.
I for one would buy one in a heartbeat. I don’t know about you, but I think this truck would be a big hit here in America. Seriously - what man over the age of 35 wouldn’t want their own personal Tonka truck to haul his quads around in style?
Drop some comments below and let’s show Suzuki that the quad world would support a company that makes both cool quads and cool trucks!

The words came as a shock to most. At the 2008 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series banquet, Team Yamaha’s Bill Ballance announced that he would retire from full-time competition at the end of the 2009 season. The nine-time GNCC Champion from Kentucky hopes to retire on top by concluding a decade of domination, but he also wants his competition to know he’s leaving, so they will be ready to get one last shot at him. Ballance’s charge for a final GNCC crown begins this weekend at the 2009 GNCC season opener, the Part Unlimited River Ranch GNCC in Lake Wales, Florida. ATV riders will practice on Saturday, February 28, and race on Sunday, March 1.
“I’m letting everyone know right now so they can come at me hard for next season,” said Ballance at the banquet in November. “I’m 32 years old, and I’m going to try to go out on top with ten-straight. I still have the fire in my gut, and I’m still going to push it as hard as I ever have. But mark it down, this will be my last run as far as I can tell, so I want everyone to get one last shot at me and give it 100 percent.”
Of course, Ballance reserves the right to change his mind and go for ten again in 2010 if he fails this season. And a host of riders would like to create that scenario. At the head of that pack comes Rockstar/Yoshimura Suzuki’s Chris Borich, who won last year’s Florida race and took second in the 2008 standings-his fourth-straight season as the GNCC runner-up. Borich may hail from Pennsylvania, but he possesses impressive sand skills since he spends his winters in Florida.
KTM’s Adam McGill broke out last year when he won three-straight races early in the season and looked like a championship lock. Bad luck eventually derailed his title bid, but McGill expects more consistency in his second season with KTM. Last year’s outstanding rookie, Yamaha rider Brandon Sommers, carded fourth in the final standings and showed a combination of focus and consistency rare for a rider with so little experience. Expect a big jump in speed from Sommers this season.
Bryan Cook will fly the DeRisi racing privateer flag again in 2009. Cook won a race last season and stood closest to Ballance in the standings at mid-season. Cook’s strong run last year gives him plenty of confidence for 2009. Local favorite Taylor Kiser, who hails from Alvord, Florida, switches back to Yamaha equipment after a solid year on the KTM team where he finished sixth in the standings.
The entire top ten of the final 2008 GNCC standings featured riders capable of winning races this season. GT Thunder Yamaha’s XC2 Champion Don Ockerman will graduate full-time to the XC1 class, and Ockerman already served notice of his abilities by landing podium finishes in both of his XC1 races last year. Popular veteran William Yokley picks up a factory Polaris ride this year, and the National Guard-backed rider expects to run up front on his new machine. Veteran Matt Smiley and sophomore Jarrod McClure can’t be counted out of the running, either. And the Warnert Can-Am Team sends Chris Bithell back into battle this season. The 2007 series number three suffered from plenty of bad luck last year, but also won a race at Unadilla. Like McGill, Bithell hopes a year of testing on his new machine will result in more consistent finishes.
Ballance serves as the target. As a young racer coming through the ranks, Ballance chased seven-time GNCC ATV Champion Barry Hawk. After Hawk landed the 1999 title, he announced he would leave ATV racing to pursue the bike championship. “If I have one regret, it’s that I wish I knew that was my last chance to beat Barry Hawk,” said Ballance at the banquet. “Maybe I would have changed some things up instead of trying to develop a new bike that year. I want everyone to know this will be their last chance.”
The top pro riders will race as part of a full four-day GNCC weekend, which also includes amateur, Youth and ATV classes, all of which practice on Saturday and race on Sunday. In the amateur ranks, Yamaha’s Traci Cecco will begin her quest for an eighth GNCC Women’s crown, with competition from KTM’s Angel Atwell expected. GNCC Racing also offers four Utility and 4×4 classes as well.
A full slate of bike classes will compete at the race, too. Bike riders will practice on Monday and race on Tuesday. Pro races begin at 1 p.m. Two-day passes, which included full pit access, cost $15, and tickets are available at the gate. For more information on the event, go to www.gnccracing.com

Promising results for KTM ATV at Le Touquet
Le Touquet Pas-de-Calais played host to the famous Enduropale du Touquet on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of February, the three-hour race held on a sixteen kilometre course running along the soft sands from the promenade to the Stella Plage and back.

With almost five hundred entrants, beautiful weather and hundreds of thousands of spectators for the Quaduro event on Saturday 21st, KTM were well represented with Ready to Race XC and SX ATV’s on the entry list with factory supported and privateer teams and riders, fantastic results delivered with KTM finishing in the top ten and with many of their stars of the present and the future getting outstanding results on debut Quaduro appearances.
Cyril Despres / Fabien Planet, KTM France
More suited to racing on two wheels rather than four, the thirty-five year-old 2009 Dakar Rallye runner-up nevertheless put on a fantastic performance with fellow countryman Fabian Planet aboard the new KTM 450 SX. Starting in the first group, Cyril led the charge up the beach at the start of the opening lap and held position in the top thirty as the first hour passed, Fabian then taking over shortly afterwards and comfortably holding 32nd at two-thirds distance. With three hours almost run the team had battled hard and moved back in to the top thirty and looked like delivering a fantastic result, only to run out of fuel on the last lap. ” It’s been a really fun event to do and I’m delighted with the way we performed during the race” commented Cyril afterwards, ” it’s a shame that we ran out of fuel on the last lap as the KTM 450 SX was fantastic to ride, performed flawlessly and the overall result does not give a true indication of how good it really is .”
Stefan Schreiber / Mario Block, KTM Alskom Quadracing
Having never ridden at the event before, seventeen year-old Stefan Schreiber and his fellow German team-mate, Mario Block, pioneered the new KTM 505 SX around the challenging circuit like veterans with fantastic results. Despite a starting number of 180 and in the fourth group of fifty riders, Stefan had moved up from to 82nd as he pitted at the end of the first hour, Mario taking over for the next one hour stint and pushing through to 59th at the last refuelling, Stefan showing the qualities that earned him the number three spot in the 2008 European Quad Championship to finish a fantastic 31st at the chequered flag. Delighted at his result, Stefan commented ” our only goal coming in to this race was to finish and gain some valuable experience of riding in these conditions. The KTM 505 SX is an unbelievable bike to ride and is easily the fastest accelerating bike out there by far. The bike we used is the one I raced for most of last year in the European Quadcross series and is extremely reliable, and although the circuit got rougher as the race wore on, the bike handled really well and I was able to push in the last phase to make up quite a few places. It has been a really enjoyable event, I don’t think I’ve ever been at a race with so many fantastic spectators who cheer every competitor on, and it will be good preparation for other long events like Bastogne and Pont De Vaux which I will also be doing this year.”
Sebastian Husseini, KTM UAE
Travelling over from his base in Dubai and to make his Le Touquet debut, the twenty-three year old former World Off Road Rally Champion delivered a fantastic result in what was undoubtedly one of the best performances of the day. Riding a KTM 525 XC, Sebastian started from the last of the ten starting groups and was faced with the challenge of negotiating around many of the four hundred and fifty riders ahead of him. Quickly adapting to the circuit Sebastian had blitzed through the field with one hour gone to occupy 42nd position, the flying Dutchman continuing his progression as far as 27th in the second hour before dropping back to 31st after stopping to refuel, Sebastian taking the chequered flag after three exhausting hours in a fantastic 38th position overall and 15th in the solo competitor class. ” I’ve always heard so much about this race meeting and have always wanted to take part” Sebastian commented afterwards, ” but it is totally different to what I expected and is more demanding than I had first envisaged. I race mainly Desert Rally events so I am used to riding in sand, but with the number of bikes the circuit here got really rough towards the end and made it difficult for me to maintain my momentum through the pack. The KTM 525 XC is a brilliant bike for events like this and we didn’t change much as it is already really competitive in standard trim against the fully modified quads out there. Overall I’m really happy with my performance as it is my first time here, and I will definitely be back to contest it next year where I can capitalise on a front row start.”
Sandra Mathy, KTM Elmo Racing Team
In only her second year of competitive quad racing, the nineteen year old from just outside Vienna took the KTM 450 SX to the deep sand of Le Touquet and put in a fantastic debut performance to finish 6th in the ladies class. Starting from the 6th row, Sandra quickly adapted to the challenging conditions and was running 342nd after one hour and gradually began to work her way back up the leaderboard, 307th at two-thirds distance before taking the chequered flag in 263rd overall. Sandra commented after the race, ” It’s been a really good result considering it is my first time here and I have never ridden a circuit such as this, I usually race Cross Country type events and occasionally some motocross. I was not as physically well prepared for the race as I would have liked to have been, and I did get a little tired in the last hour of the race, but the KTM 450 SX handled perfectly as the circuit got rougher and allowed me to gain a lot of places towards th e end. I will certainly do this race next year, but in the meantime I am really looking forward to racing the KTM 450 SX in the German XC Championship this year, and will also do other races such as Erzberg and Pont De Vaux.”
Overall Results
1st - Romain Couprie
2nd - Jeremie Warnia
3rd - Jan Vlaeymans
9th - Julien Valentin / David Bertrand (Team Motoland KTM)
29th - Grzegorz Brzozoxski / Jacek Stelmaszyk (Brzozowski Quad Tuning KTM)

If you’ve got new clutch plates for your quad, soak them overnight in oil before installing them. This allows the fiber clutch plates to absorb the most oil and expand to their fullest thickness before installation. This trick will make the clutch plates last longer and produce a smoother clutch feel than a quick dip in the oil before installation.

When installing a new clutch on your quad, swap out the old clutch springs for new ones. Clutch springs control the amount of tension that is applied when the clutch is being released (when the inner hub and outer basket begin to come back into contact with each other). Clutch springs generally fatigue 10 percent after only 10 hours of riding! So when you change your quad’s clutch plates, be sure to throw in some new springs, too.

Is a winner in the Dealer Expo Kickstart New Product Contest!
Risk Racing is proud to announce that their new product, the Magnetic Light MINE, is a winner in the Dealer Expo “Kickstart” New Product Contest! The competition recognizes the hottest new products and predicts these products will be the next big thing in the upcoming selling season. –

Though not much smaller than a golf ball, the new Risk Racing® Magnetic LED “Light-Mine” is a powerful spotlight that can be used almost anywhere you need illumination.
It has an intensely bright, wide angle LED and 12 powerful rare earth (neodymium) magnets that allow you to stick it to any steel surface or rest it on any surface and aim the light towards the workspace at almost any angle.
Professionals, including motorcycle and automotive technicians, electricians, plumbers and HVAC contractors, will want to have one on hand, as it is small enough to fit into tight areas and aim a powerful beam of light where it is needed most. Because of its 12 rare earth magnets, it also works as a “pick up” tool for dropped screws, nails and hardware.
Motorcycle enthusiast including street and dirt bike riders will also find hundreds of uses for the Risk Racing® Magnetic LED “Light-Mine” on the road, track, trails, or in the garage. Toss one in your saddle bag for road side repairs. Stick it to your tool box in the race trailer, or stick it to the fridge and make it the go-to flashlight for the whole family. Use it when working on an engine, changing a tire, wiring a home theater, switching on a breaker, crawling around under a counter or sink. It’s even great to have on camping trips. The potential uses are endless.
Powered by three alkaline button cell batteries (included), the Risk Racing® Magnetic LED “Light-Mine” is available now and will retail for only $7.99. For more information, pictures and demo videos go to the Risk Racing website www.riskracing.com, or call 704-658-9332.

HELP STOP THE FEBRUARY 10TH BAN ON YOUTH OHVS
On February 10, 2009, a new law regulating lead content in certain products will go into effect. This could adversely affect companies that manufacture or distribute youth model all-terrain vehicles and off-highway motorcycles and parts and accessories for those vehicles. Dealers that sell and service those products would be impacted as well.
The Specialty Vehicle Institute of America (SVIA) and the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) have urgently requested the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and federal legislators to take a common sense approach to implementation of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act’s lead provisions.
SVIA and MIC have join ed several of their member companies in filing petitions with the CPSC for emergency relief from the provisions. They are seeking a temporary final rule to exempt ATV nd motorcycle components, parts and accessories in order to avoid major disruptions to enthusiasts, to the member companies’ businesses, and to the companies’ dealer network of thousands of small, independent businesses, which employ tens of thousands of Americans.
BRC is asking all OHV users to contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission and their elected officials today!
Use the following links to send your comments and to contact your Congressional Representatives. Included below is a sample letter regarding the potential ban of all youth-oriented OHVs, which starts February 10, 2009.

It’s Official - #20, Josh Upperman will again “Ride Red” for 2009
As of January 16, 2009 Josh Upperman, #20 has signed another year with American Honda/Baldwin Motorsports and will continue to ride red for the 2009 season. “With all the great starts (Hole Shot King) and finishes I had in 2008 I’m really looking forward to an impressive year”, says Josh. Look for the #20 to be a powerful competitor on his TRX450R built by Mark Baldwin in the AMA ATV Pro ITP/Moose ATV National Motocross Series Presented by Parts Unlimited. The eleven-race schedule will begin in San Bernardino, CA on March 8th and end on August 16th at the well-known Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN (see full schedule below).
Only the second year, in this vigorous, demanding, and highly skilled Pro ATV class Josh Upperman, one of the “Young Guns” captured 9th place overall and 6th place overall in the ITP Grand Slam Series (series within a series) which is Presented by Quad Magazine. Mark Baldwin, Josh’s engine builder, tuner and race team manager stated; “Josh and I are pretty comfortable and working together a lot to develop the right combination for a championship”. Josh is healthy, strong, and riding a great deal in Florida at several tracks before heading to California. Mark and Josh along with other team sponsors are working on some different set-ups and research and developing.
Josh Upperman is 23 year old, from Louisville, OH, the youngest of three children, has been racing since he was 15 years old, which started on a Honda 400EX. He started racing in the local CRA series, in Ohio and Pennsylvania and after much improvement moved to a national level in 2004, where he gained much recognition as an aggressive competitor. Josh received the 2005 National Pro-Am Unlimited Class Champion and took home the third in the Pro-Am Production Class.
2006 was a pivotal year for Josh Upperman, with the Honda TRX450R, built by Mark Baldwin, underneath him. Josh not only took the championship in the AMA ATVA MX Pro-Am Production class, but also captured the title for the AMA ATVA MX Pro-Am Unlimited class, too, which he wrapped up with three races to go in the series. This gave him a chance to get his feet wet in the Pro Class at the Unadilla MX track; Josh ended up with a much-admired 4th place overall for the weekend. He finished 20th overall, in the Pro class for the 2006 season, racing only three races. At the 2006, AMA Awards Banquet held in Las Vegas, NV Josh received the “Amateur Rider of the Year” award.

Pre-Registration of Stateline ATV Supermoto Challenge Ends on Mar. 28
Primm, NV (2/3/2009) - The Stateline Challenge for 2009 is just around the corner and we are here to bring you up to speed on what’s going on for this years event. In this press release we are going to keep it simple and stick with information about the event, registration, class structure, a tentative schedule and a quick note about hotel rooms. Read on.
Get the Flash Player to see this player.
Don’t close the window after the racing is finished. There is a Special Feature with Nic Granlund!
First things first:
We want to apologize for the late notice about pre-registration. We’ve been working as hard as possible to solidify all the details with the new venue before we sent this information out. Everything is now all sorted out, so it’s time for game on.
The Stateline Supermoto Challenge event will be held at the same general location,
Primm Nevada, but the race event will be across the street to the South and next
to the outlet mall. There’s a huge amount of room for the pavement section,
and out to the east is all open so there’s plenty of room for an awesome dirt section.
We have the whole east side of the mall parking lot, so pit space isn’t going to be a
problem either. In fact, the track layout is longer than what had previously done at
Buffalo Bills. The new track will be located in the parking area on the east side
of the mall which also allows us more access to the facilities than we have had in the past.
On to what you need to know about registration. Pre-registration will open February 1, 2009 (tonight) at midnight PST. You’ll need to get on line tonight at midnight and register early for your grid position. Registration order will set the grids for all classes except the Pro class, 450 class, and Quad Pro class, which will be set by pea pick on race day.
Also, register for any class and you’ll get two, no charge practice sessions on Friday.

“ WORCS Racing & Moose together again ”
www.worcsracing.com
WORCS Racing announced today the return of Moose Racing to the WORCS Series. After a four year absence, Moose will return as a series sponsor for 2009 & 2010 seasons. Moose Racing will also provide contingencies for the bike & ATV programs.
“It’s been too long. Moose was with us back in the day when I was in the transition of taking the business over from Dave Hamel. For the past four years, ARC has been the official gear of the WORCS series. Rocky Mountain no longer makes the ARC gear line so we were able to offer other gear companies the opportunity to join our series and that is just what Moose has done. They are a great company, Hylton, Roxanne, Beth and the crew are top notch people and I look forward to a long existing future with them.”- Sean Reddish of WORCS Racing
“Moose Racing is really excited to be involved in the WORCS series and we feel that because this is the premier Off-Road series on the West Coast, and as we have a lot of our top riders participating, it gives us a great platform to support them and the series.” -Hylton Beattie, Motorsports Manager/Parts Unlimited
Moose will be at select rounds of the 2009 series. Stop by and see their line of clothing and hardware that they have to offer.

Yoshimura Offers Isotropic Superfinishing Process (ISF) for Better Engine Performance
Motorsport race teams around the world have discovered the secret of the ISF (Isotropic Superfinish) Process to keep their transmission and gearboxes cool and less likely to fail. This chemically accelerated deburring/polishing process uses high-density, non-abrasive ceramic pellets to remove microscopic surface peaks and valleys left from machining. The result is a highly uniform mirror-like surface that reduces friction and allows for increased lubrication. The result is an improved component that will operate at lower temperatures, provide increased durability, quieter operation, and increased time between maintenance.
Yoshimura offers this in-house service to the performance ATV and motorcycle enthusiast or racer who wants to improve gear life and power output as well as reduce costs and those pesky DNFs.
The Yoshimura ISF Process:
• Reduces friction
• Lowers temperatures
• Makes a smoother shifting action
• Creates a “freer” feeling engine
• Reduces break-in time
• Increases oil life span
• Quieter operation
Retail: From $230.00
Part Number: REM-Service

If your quad has drum brakes, check the brake engagement at least twice a year (you can’t do it too much, so check it before every ride if you want). Put your machine up on a stand and spin the tires, then slowly engage the brakes until the wheels lock up. Did one wheel stop sooner than the other? If so, adjust the brakes individually so they stop evenly. There is an adjuster on each drum, and they are not self-adjusting like disc brakes. They can engage differently because they are cable actuated. Adjusting them will help you out in the event of an emergency stop, where uneven braking could cause your quad to react improperly.
